In the vibrant city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home to the Theta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, we were entrusted with a remarkable design project. Such assignments, laden with the challenge of catering to a diverse set of opinions within a group, are indeed complex. These projects are intricate jigsaws, each member offering a unique piece of the puzzle. Owing to the nuanced dynamics, we selectively undertake a handful of such ventures annually.
This specific project was masterminded by a friend, the 6 dog of the line, who desired a concept that reimagined a vintage Chicago Bulls caricature shirt from 1991. He provided a photograph taken after they became members of Omega Psi Phi, a memento of their collective journey.
The initial challenge was the layout of the photograph. The arrangement of the fraternity members, coupled with some awkward head tilts, made it a complex subject to replicate in design. Our initial proposal was to use a different photograph, one that would lend itself more naturally to the design process. However, our friend remained resolute, his conviction rooted in the authenticity and symbolism of that particular image.
In the spirit of creative exploration and embracing the challenge, we decided to honor his vision. Although the task was arduous, we strived to capture the essence of fraternity, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of Omega Psi Phi. The resulting design, a testament to our perseverance and commitment to creative integrity, turned out to be an immaculate rendition of the original photo.
